Position: Marine Construction Superintendent

Location: Belle Chasse, LA and offshore.

 

Job Summary:

A Marine Construction Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Barge Superintendent with the operations of a Heavy Lift barge and the safety of personnel and equipment on the barge. Marine Construction Superintendents play a crucial role in managing and overseeing various marine construction projects, ensuring they are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Managing Construction Projects: Oversee all stages of marine construction projects, including planning, execution, and completion. Work with Project Managers to develop and maintain a project schedule, identifying any potential delays or issues and implementing solutions to mitigate them.
  2. Supervise, Inspect and Maintain: Supervise and coordinate the activities of construction workers and subcontractors, ensuring work is performed safely and efficiently, Inspect, and maintain equipment to ensure safety standards are met.
  3. Project Specifications: Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with project specifications, regulations, and quality standards.
  4. Communication: Coordinate with other crew members, supervisors, and crane operators to ensure effective communication and safe execution of operations.
  5. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, equipment usage, and any incidents or near misses. Complete lift plans and risk assessments as required.
  6. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other maritime professionals, including ship crew, engineers, and project managers, to achieve project goals.
  7. Client Relations: Ensure that relationships with Clients are in good standing.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a Superintendent or similar role in the maritime industry
  • Thorough understanding of rigging techniques, equipment, and safety protocols
  • Ability to ready and interpret rigging drawings and lift plans.
  • Physical fitness and stamina for manual labor involved in rigging operations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of relevant maritime regulations and industry standards
  • Problem solving and critical thinking abilities.

 

Working Environment:

Construction Superintendents work in both indoor and outdoor environments, often in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions. They may be required to work at heights and in close proximity to heavy machinery. The role may involve irregular working hours, including weekends and holidays, depending on project requirements.
