Our client is looking for a Site Safety Officer (SSO) for the Lake Pelto Island – Reef Restoration / Structures Removal Project

POSITION SUMMARY
The Site Safety Officer (SSO) is the on-site authority responsible for implementing, enforcing, and monitoring all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements for the Lake Pelto Island Reef Restoration Project. The SSO shall be present on-site at all times during active operations and shall have the authority to stop work for unsafe conditions or non-compliance with the approved Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP).
REPORTING
· Reports to: Project Superintendent
· Functional reporting: Company HSE Manager
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Program Execution
• Implement and enforce the approved HASP in compliance with OSHA regulations, ConocoPhillips (COP) HSE requirements, and Contractor safety programs.
• Integrate safety requirements into daily work activities, lift plans, demolition plans, and marine operations.
Field Oversight
• Conduct and document daily safety meetings, JSAs, and toolbox talks.
• Perform continuous field monitoring of demolition, pile removal, dredging, and marine activities.
• Verify compliance with PPE requirements including Type I PFDs and red hard hat designation.
High-Risk Activity Control
• Review and monitor safety controls for crane lifts, work over water, hot work, confined space entry, and elevated demolition.
Training & Compliance
• Verify all personnel maintain required safety training and certifications.
• Maintain training documentation on-site.
Incident & Environmental Management
• Lead response, investigation, and reporting of incidents and near misses.
• Ensure immediate notification to Project Management, GHD, ConocoPhillips, and regulators.
• Monitor spill prevention and environmental controls.
Authority
• Full authority to stop work for unsafe conditions.
• Authority to remove personnel for serious or repeated violations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Minimum 5 years safety experience in marine construction, demolition, dredging, or offshore operations.
• OSHA 30-Hour certification.
• Current First Aid/CPR.
Preferred
• Experience under ConocoPhillips HSE systems.
• CHST, CSP, or equivalent certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to work in a remote marine environment.
• Ability to board vessels and access active work areas.
